The Texas State PREM Center for Intelligent Materials Assembly (CIMA) hosted students from regional elementary, middle and high schools in several STEM tours to our campus. Visiting children participated in:

  • Visits to chemistry and biology laboratories where the students got to learn about the biomaterials research being conducted

  • Hands-on chemistry, biochemistry, physics and engineering activities to spark their interest in STEM careers

  • Tours of the core materials science characterization facilities including live demonstrations of scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and optical microscopy

  • Tours of Alkek One, a hub of technology spaces located on the Alkek Library featuring a digital design space, maker space, immersion studio for virtual reality, and audio and video production studios

  • Discussion on college pathways for middle/high school students, including information on STEM majors offered and opportunities for research and scholarships.

Between 2025 and 2026, these visits have served nearly 150 students.
