Andrew Kent is a Professor of Physics and the Founding Director of the Center for Quantum Phenomena at New York University. His research interests are magnetic nanostructures, nanomagnetic devices, and magnetic information storage. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) and has served as chair of the APS topical group on magnetism and its applications (GMAG). Kent received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Lorraine, France, in 2013, the French Jean d'Alembert Research Fellowship in 2017, and was named professor at the University of Lorraine in 2018. He was elevated to IEEE Fellow starting in 2022.
Research Description
Magnetism and transport in mesoscopic systems; magnetic quantum tunneling and coherence in nanostructures; spin-dependence electron transport (spintronics), giant magnetoresistance; spin-angular momentum transfer; scanning probe microscopy of nanostructured materials; novel local probes of cooperative phenomena in nanomagnets.
