The NIH Summer Internship Program (SIP) provides an exceptional opportunity for undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students to conduct biomedical research at the National Institutes of Health. As one of the premier summer research programs in the country, SIP places students in NIH laboratories where they work alongside world-renowned scientists on cutting-edge research projects.
Program Benefits: Participants receive a competitive monthly stipend ranging from $3,010 to $4,190 depending on educational level. The program includes extensive professional development activities, networking opportunities with NIH researchers, and exposure to diverse career paths in biomedical sciences.
Eligibility: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents currently enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, or professional school programs, or have been accepted into a graduate program.
Application Process: Applications open mid-November and close mid-February. Candidates are encouraged to reach out directly to potential research groups and Principal Investigators (PIs). PIs review applications independently and begin interviewing candidates in early January, selecting their own summer interns based on research fit and qualifications.
