The Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) program, sponsored by the DOE Office of Science, provides undergraduate students and recent graduates with paid research experiences at 17 DOE national laboratories. Participants work alongside leading scientists and engineers, gaining hands-on experience in cutting-edge STEM research.
Program Options: Students may choose between a 10-week summer term (May-August) or semester-long experiences during fall (August-December) or spring (January-May). Both options provide immersive research training with dedicated mentorship.
Research Opportunities: SULI participants engage in research across diverse scientific disciplines including physics, chemistry, biology, environmental science, computing, and engineering at world-class DOE facilities nationwide.
Benefits: The program offers competitive stipends, housing allowances, and travel reimbursement. Beyond compensation, interns gain professional networks, mentorship from research experts, and valuable experience that strengthens graduate school and career applications.
Eligibility: Applicants must be undergraduate students or recent graduates with demonstrated interest in STEM or science policy fields. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is typically required.
Application Timeline: Applications open seasonally for summer, fall, and spring terms. Check the SULI website for current deadlines and application requirements.
