Materials Student Chapter Spotlighted in International Professional Publication

The Material Advantage Chapter of the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez (UPRM), founded under the auspice of UPRM PREM, received a spotlight on the October 2007 issue of JOM. This is published by The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society and is distributed globally. The 2-column spotlight underscores the impact of the UPRM chapter on advancing awareness on Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) and on sustaining a successful professional organization. This is the first MSE chapter in Puerto Rico and has a diverse membership that includes students from most engineering programs that are interested on materials. UPRM Material Advantage students have been assisting in PREM's outreach efforts in local and regional public high schools by conducting materials science demonstrations and supporting MSE clubs established in those schools. Since its creation in 2004 the chapter has been heavily involved in almost all of major conferences organized by ASM International and TMS. The members are encouraged to prepare posters and oral presentations for those conferences. JOM highlights UPRM Material Advantage Student Chapter
